read are usually from very different genres. I can’t listen to them in the same places I “read” or I fall asleep. I like to listen to audiobooks while I’m driving or walking or working out or doing chores. In the past year I got through Moby Dick, Middlemarch, and The Scarlet Letter this way. I might not retain as much as I would with print, but I get the gist. Audiobooks work well for me in these situations. Personally there are books I feel like I “should” read but struggle to get through (some non-fiction and classics). I’ve heard great things about the audiobook of As You Wish, by Cary Elwes, about the making of The Princess Bride although I haven’t listened to it yet myself. I loved Michelle Obama’s Becoming and Matthew McConaughey’s Greenlights, both read by their authors. I highly recommend giving it a try even if you don’t think it’s for you. Some suggestions: -I think most people will agree that Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime is one of the best audiobooks ever. That way you it’s more like someone telling you about their life. Maybe go a different route and try memoirs or autobiographies read by their author. I am partial to retellings that focus on those who don’t get a voice in the original telling and this fit perfectly. It’s about the fall of Troy but told from the perspective of the women. Simply one of the best books out there! Just a sweet, wonderful hug in book form that, IMHO, is even better as the audiobook.Ī Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes. It had been well over 35,000 hours or so since then, with still not much murdering, but probably, I don’t know, a little under 35,000 hours of movies, serials, books, plays, and music consumed.
